Audi A4 is Business Car of the Year

The Audi A4 has been named Business Car of the year for 2009 by BusinessCar magazine, with BMW taking the manufacturer's award. The awards were something of a shut-out for German manufacturers, with Audi, BMW and Volkswagen taking the majority of awards. Of the other manufacturers, the Fiat 500 won City Car, BMW-owned Mini took the Supermini award and the Ford Galaxy won the MPV gong.

Manheim was named Service Supplier of the Year; RAC won Accident Management and Vehicle Recovery awards; Autoglass won the Winscreens award; and TomTom Work took the Telematics award.

Full details follow below:

• Business Car of the Year: Audi A4

BusinessCar verdict: Audi describes the A4 as the ‘cornerstone’ of the brand, so it should be delighted the new version of its premium upper medium challenger has found such fleet favour it’s grabbed the top title as 2009’s Business Car of the Year.

• Manufacturer of the Year: BMW

BusinessCar verdict: The Manufacturer of the Year accolade has traditionally been fiercely contested and this year was no different. Audi and Ford have both picked up the title in the past few years, but this time around it’s BMW that’s come good

• Green Initiative of the Year: BMW Efficient Dynamics

BusinessCar verdict: Any organisation or brand that is eco-focussed and relevant to the fleet manager can win our Green Initiative of the Year award. Previous winners include Saab’s BioPower range, BP’s carbon offsetting scheme and the Highways Agency ...

• Service Supplier of the Year: Manheim

BusinessCar verdict: With voting at record levels this year for the BusinessCar Awards, Manheim’s win – coming on top of a first position in the Auctions category – is impressive.

• City car: Fiat 500

BusinessCar verdict: If ever there was a sure bet for a new car to take a category win in the BusinessCar Awards then the Fiat 500 in the city car class was it.

• Supermini: Mini

BusinessCar verdict: The Mini has picked up our supermini title every one of the seven years it has been on sale, and looking at the competition this is a real achievement.

• Lower medium: Audi A3

BusinessCar verdict: BusinessCar verdict: The Audi A3 is once more the lower medium model of the year, snatching back the award it took from Ford’s Focus in 2007 and then lost to the Honda Civic last year.

• Upper medium: Audi A4

BusinessCar verdict: The new A4 has really arrived with a wallop, taking not only the top prize of Business Car of the Year, but also stealing the upper medium category that has flicked backwards and forwards between Ford’s Mondeo and the BMW 3-series ...

• Executive: BMW 5-series

BusinessCar verdict: It’s nine wins out of 11 for BMW in this category as the 5-series reclaims its position as our top executive car.

• Luxury: Audi A8

BusinessCar verdict: It’s two years in a row at the top of the luxury sector for Audi’s A8.

• Small 4x4: Audi Q5

BusinessCar verdict: Fleet operators have taken the Q5 straight to their hearts.

• Large 4x4: Audi Q7

BusinessCar verdict: It’s an off-roader double for Audi with the Q7 matching its Q5 baby brother and scooping the large 4x4 title.

• Mini-MPV: Volkswagen Touran

BusinessCar verdict: This category was incredibly close this year with any one of three vehicles in the running until the final few days of voting.

• MPV: Ford Galaxy

BusinessCar verdict: Ford’s Galaxy is fast making this category its own with the third win in a row for the full-size seven seater.

• Sporting car: Audi A5

BusinessCar verdict: The winner’s the same, only different. Audi has scooped the sporting car category for the third year in a row, but it’s the A5 coupe that takes it this time, not the TT that’s bagged the prize in each of the past two years.

• Green manufacturer: BMW

BusinessCar verdict: Given BMW scooped our headline Green Initiative of the Year award, it only makes sense that you have voted it your green manufacturer of 2009.

• Accident Management: RAC

BusinessCar verdict: RAC has picked up this award eight times on the trot now, but 2008 didn’t see a raft of new and radical changes to the service offered.

• Vehicle Recovery: RAC

BusinessCar verdict: Good news for the RAC as it emerged victorious in the Vehicle Recovery section for the first time since 2005, wrestling the title from rival The AA.

• Windscreens: Autoglass

BusinessCar verdict: While other categories have seen long-standing leaders tumble this year, Autoglass has cemented its gold medal-winning ways with its eighth success in a row.

• Telematics: TomTom Work

BusinessCar verdict: BusinessCar readers have this year chosen to give this award to a company that claims to be “the fastest-growing telematics company in the UK”.
